Jonah Bank COVID-19 Readiness

05/07/2020 UPDATE:

A message from our President and CEO

Week 8 of our captivity… time to find a path forward! We are sure you, your family, and your businesses are contemplating the same issues. First, let us thank you for your patience and support over the past two months as we did our best to adapt our operations. Although we haven’t been able to physically see you in person, it feels as though we have been sitting right next to you throughout this crazy time. We do not take that relationship lightly and are so grateful you allowed us to be your banking partner. Enough with the mushy stuff, let’s get to the point!

WHAT IS OUR NEW NORMAL?

Normal is a stretch with our group since we were never normal to start with. Just like you, we don’t really know what is coming next. For bankers, that is pretty hard to handle because we are extra conservative control freaks. (It’s okay for us to say that, but don’t throw that back at us later.) Our ultimate goal is to reopen once and do it well, rather than going back and forth like a yoyo. The safety of you and our Jonah Bankers is our highest priority in this process.

PROCUREMENT, A NEW DEPARTMENT

Okay, that’s an exaggeration. Procurement has become the driving factor in our reopen date, but hopefully will not be necessary forever. Our most important “procurement” is to bring our remote working Jonah Bankers back into the office, which has its own set of obstacles with schools being canceled. In addition, we have ordered plastic barriers for our tellers stations, masks for our employees, and a barrage of cleaning supplies. Obviously everyone and their brother is attempting to do the same thing, so it will take time to get our branches ready to go again. Our hope is to have everything ready sometime after Memorial Day so we can welcome you back into your bank. We will keep you updated on an estimated date as we get closer. One thing is for sure; we are SO looking forward to that day!

IN THE MEANTIME, IT’S BUSINESS AS (UN)USUAL

Until we have the branch lobbies open again, we will do whatever we can to help you with your banking. Wyoming has a long haul ahead of us to recover from what 2020 has delivered. The whole economy has been kicked in the teeth, but we are a pretty resilient state and our bet is on us to prevail. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your recovery, so please do not hesitate to ask your banker for anything. Jonah Bank was built in 2006 to help small businesses in Wyoming and our mission hasn’t changed. Let’s continue to Build a Better Wyoming together, just don’t shake our hands…not quite yet.

03/26/2020 UPDATE:

A message from our President and CEO

Well, so much for “seems like an eternity since we talked last!”  It’s only Wednesday and we’re back!

Out of an abundance of caution we are temporarily closing our East Casper location at 3730 East Second Street.  No, we haven’t had an employee or a customer test positive, we are truly erring on the side of caution.  A member of an employee’s household was tested today, but results will not be received until Monday at the earliest.  That particular branch is already running on a very small staff and we feel it best not to potentially expose any customers or additional employees should we actually be dealing with a case of COVID-19.  Are we taking this too serious?  Probably.  Can we all withstand a little inconvenience to be safe?  Absolutely.

Our West Casper location at 777 West First Street is alive and kicking, so please visit the drive-up there for the next few business days until we re-assess the situation based on current events and the test results.  Most importantly, please keep your fingers crossed (toes, legs and eyes too) that this was all an unnecessary fire drill.  If it was, feel free to call us and say “I told you so.”  That phrase would be great to hear early next week!  Well actually, let’s rethink that… if it was an unnecessary fire drill, call Mark.  If it turned out to be a great decision, call Kim.

All of the Jonah Codes apply in this situation, but the most applicable would be Talk Less, Say More.  We will always deliver the decision that we feel is in everyone’s best interest, so thank you for your patience and understanding.  As usual, we will keep you updated.

03/23/2020:

A message from our President and CEO

Gosh, it’s seems an eternity since we talked.  Each day seems like a week right now, so we thought we should reach out to let you know we are still here.  Much like those addictive series on TV that you spend a weekend binge watching, our third episode doesn’t have a massive amount of exciting content, just enough to keep you engaged.  In our ever changing world, that is hopefully welcome news.  We have four last Codes to use because we can’t leave any out.  They are all equally important to what we do each day at Jonah Bank.

TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK

We now have about 75% of our staff working from home and GUESS WHAT?  It’s working much better than we ever anticipated.  It shouldn’t come as a surprise though because Jonah Bankers have strong work ethic and are committed to taking care of their customers.  We could be in trouble now that they have discovered they can do great work AND wear their pajamas.  The dress code has taken some serious hits recently but hey, whatta you do?

Just a reminder, don’t panic if you receive a call from a residential number and it’s us.  We are still performing call backs on wires, updating customer contact information, and anything we can do to stay busy.  Once again, we won’t ask you to provide us the information we already have on file so don’t fall for any scams.  The bad guys are out there in force, but they don’t work at Jonah Bank.

Speaking of the bad guys; those dudes don’t take a break!  In expectation of the Economic Relief checks that will be sent from the IRS, they have already developed a new scam.  DO NOT give your personal or bank account information to someone who claims to be calling from the IRS regarding your check.  The IRS will be mailing checks and lord knows they don’t have the staff to call every American… they barely have the staff to answer their phones!

WHEN YOU MAKE A PROMISE, KEEP IT

Our commitment to you hasn’t faltered.  Please reach out to your banker if you need some help during this crisis.  For those customers who are business owners, you are the lifeblood of this state and you are not alone.  There are many sources out there for relief right now, let your banking partner help you navigate through them.  Besides, our lenders can’t golf right now and frankly they need more to do.  Just kidding…kind of.

Let’s work together to distance ourselves when possible; it sure seems to be our ultimate solution.  Our drive-ups are still open normal hours to process your transactions, but help us keep your exposure and our exposure down when possible.  Just have a check to deposit?  Keep your butt on the couch and use the remote deposit capability on your mobile banking app.  We know we are pretty cool, but not that cool.  We don’t even have those fun Monopoly pieces like Albertsons or Safeway.

KNOW WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE

Our intuition tells us that this letter has gotten too long, so Keep Calm and Wash On!

03/17/2020 UPDATE:

A message from our President and CEO

Well, it’s us again…your friends at Jonah Bank.  Our first episode featured Jonah Bankers in pajamas and a reminder to look for those in our communities who need our help.  This episode is centered on The Jonah Bank Code.  We tried to pick one element to focus on, but it quickly became clear that many apply to the situation we are all facing with COVID-19.

DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE

We are proud to say we have nearly half of our employees operating from home and it is working well.  It wasn’t easy to make those first decisions, but we had higher risk employees, along with parents without daycare who should be at home.  BTW…they didn’t all agree with us so it has been a bit of a negotiation!  Not surprisingly, Jonah Bankers wanted to stay in the office with their customers and coworkers to work through this as a team.  It didn’t take much for us to realize we don’t need to be together to be a team

LIVE EACH DAY WITH COURAGE

Recent guidance is calling for US citizens to stay home when possible and to avoid gathering in groups larger than 10.  Well, there aren’t a huge amount of us in the office, but it’s definitely more than 10.  In addition, it seems this pandemic has brought out some bad actors (SHOCKER) which has prompted the FBI to warn banks about potential robberies and fraud.  In light of all we know, we have made the difficult decision to close the lobbies of our branches beginning Wednesday, March 18th.  The drive-ups of all four branches will remain open for transactions during our normal business hours of 8am-5:30pm.

ALWAYS FINISH WHAT YOU START

We will not leave you hanging!  We will still have additional branch staff available in the bank to take care of loan closings, construction draws, and other items requiring in person service.  Let’s have some fun and treat it like a speakeasy.  We just ask that you call ahead, give us the phrase of the day, and the hidden door will open.  Okay, we are kidding about the phrase and hidden door, but not the calling ahead part.

RIDE FOR THE BRAND

What is our brand?  Jonah Bank? Casper? Cheyenne? Wyoming? It’s simple… it’s you, it’s our staff, it’s our communities.  We need to REMEMBER THAT SOME THINGS AREN’T FOR SALE, which includes our health and safety.   This is purely temporary and we just need to push forward until we get to the other side together. (While technically, not really being together)

TALK LESS AND SAY MORE

That’s it for today’s episode, but tune in next time as it feels like we are all starring in a soap opera.  Please call us and ask about anything that is concerning you…except toilet paper.

03/16/2020:

A message from our President and CEO

Yes, it’s yet ANOTHER Coronavirus letter. Probably your 20th today, sorry. At Jonah Bank we would like to keep our message simple; that’s how we built our bank and it has seemed to work so far. Here is what we want you to know:

WE ARE NOT DOCTORS, NOR DO WE PLAY ONE ON TV

In all seriousness, we really prefer to let the experts address the virus itself, as that is not our specialty. Your Jonah Bankers are reading the guidance and making sure we follow it each day, at the bank and at home. We hope you and your family are doing the same; it is the best way to put this behind us.

WE GOT THIS!

As it relates to your Jonah Bank accounts…we’ve got that covered. Jonah Bank has a strong plan to ensure we operate without interruption through this pandemic. Our branches are open and we will handle your financial transactions just as we have in the past. In order to prepare for further escalation, we already have a portion of our staff working from home and we will expand that if necessary. Your money is safe with us and you should not worry about accessing your funds. If the situation calls for it, we will close our branches inside and will handle transactions through our drive-ups. Also, if you haven’t enrolled for mobile deposit yet, now would be a great time.

BANKERS WEARING PAJAMAS….WHAAAAAAT????

We may have a bunch of Jonah Bankers working from home. The good news is you won’t be forced to see them on camera in their “non-banker” garb. Don’t be surprised if your caller ID shows a residential phone number….it could be us. Always remember, we won’t ask you to give us any of your identifying information or details from your accounts. That way you can be assured the person on the other side is a Jonah Banker, not a scammer.

DID YOU HEAR?????

When in doubt, please call us and ask before you believe rumors you hear or see on social media. What have we heard recently? Cash shortages, bank closures; you name it, we’ve heard it. Let’s be clear, there isn’t a shortage of cash in the United States. Do you know what causes cash shortages? The same thing that causes toilet paper shortages…panic. The good news is…cash doesn’t come from China, so there is no need to worry.

WE ARE STILL BUILDING A BETTER WYOMING

Our true colors come through when we are faced with adversity. Jonah Bank is proud to be a member of your community. We are here to help. We will be here to work with you should this pandemic put you or your business in a bind. Feel free to call your Jonah Banker, that is what we are here for.

Have an idea of a way we can all come together to help other members of our community who are being impacted? Reach out to a Jonah Banker and we will help spread the word. We really need to take this opportunity to do what Wyoming does best…. take care of our own. Shop local, eat local, support those small businesses that need us. Let’s do whatever we can to help each other, that’s how we roll.
